Emmeline W Hill
Emmeline is Professor in Equine Genomics at University College Dublin (Ireland) where more than 20 years ago she established the world’s first academic research programme dedicated to understanding racing performance traits in the Thoroughbred horse. Since then she has been at the forefront of Thoroughbred genomics publishing more scientific papers on equine exercise genomics than any other researcher worldwide. In 2010 her team discovered the ‘Speed Gene’ in Thoroughbreds leading to the establishment of Equinome, the leading provider of genetic tests for racing performance to the global Thoroughbred industry. Equinome is now part of Zinto Labs, where Emmeline is Chief Science Officer, directing research to deliver solutions to environmental and species challenges using advanced genomic technologies and proprietary bioinformatics. Zinto Labs develops actionable genomics-based tools to support decision-making in animal management. Her current research focuses on the management of inbreeding, and behavioural, health and welfare traits in the Thoroughbred and other horse breeds, and in animal species bred for sport.
