What has the law got to do with sport and racing? Quite a lot. How everything from the rules of racing to animal welfare laws are interpreted; How sports are properly regulated and governed both nationally and internationally; Stewards' powers; Stewards' Inquiries; Statutory Tribunals; Who and how evidence is given at such Inquiries and Tribunals; How anti-doping control is conducted; How wagering operates; How participants within the sport are licensed; how racing upholds and enforces its integrity; commercial contracts; employment contracts; intellectual property; privacy. All of the above involves law and lawyers. Through case examples from around the world this presentation reflects on the role of law, on and off the track, in and out of the lab, within the racing bubble and beyond, sometimes in the courts of law and often in the court of public opinion.
